Stone walls, steps, veneer and repair work
Stone is the one thing on a property that should outlive everybody who worked on it, and in New England most of what fails was built on a bad base rather than a bad face. We build and repair fieldstone and block walls, retaining walls, steps, pillars, veneer and chimneys — and we dig the footing below frost, drain behind the wall and pin it properly, because in Connecticut it is the freeze-thaw cycle that takes a wall apart, not the weather you can see.
Our Process
Look Underneath
We check what the existing wall is sitting on. A face that is bulging is almost always a base or drainage problem.
Excavate & Base
Footing dug below frost, compacted base laid, drainage stone and pipe set behind anything holding back soil.
Build
Laid course by course, pinned and tied, with the batter and the cap set so water runs off rather than sits in it.
Finish & Clean
Pointed, cleaned down, backfilled and graded, with the spoil and offcuts taken away.
